Summer was delayed this year, and we felt it. My iPhone keeps reminding us what it was like in March and April 2020 and it’s no wonder we didn’t really mind the early lockdown days. Those were the times when I fully embraced gardening, because there wasn’t much of anything going on. I had to keep myself occupied if I was going to spending so much time out there.
This year all of the rain for March, April and most of May was so damn grating. We managed to do the trampoline and some of the half-decent days, but the weather gave up on us soon after. I’m thankful that I took the initiative to plant so much grass seed in the patchy bits during the showery phase, because that was the only benefit of those weeks.
The day that things changed and the cloud altered their tone, I literally sprung into action with my lawnmower and went for it. While Cameo now believes that the only purpose of our garden is to house our trampoline, Marlo’s actually been willing to give me a hand with all my weeding, raking and disposing of the waste.
It’s funny because based on the calendar I’m looking at right now, we’re barely going to see this garden over summer, because we’ve got things on each and every weekend for the foreseeable future.
On top of that, any spare time on the schedule we’ve decided we’re going to fill – just because we finally can again! It’s that time. We’re doing a little bit of everything and even if it means I don’t get to groom the garden to the level I managed last year, it should have already known that it was a freak, fluke situation.
A recent development with the boys is that they’ll now dance or bop their heads just like me when a proper jam comes on, so Hollie and I have been using the glorious weather as an opportunity to introduce them to all the UK Garage they need to be blazing themselves in 15 years’ time when the sun rears its head.
