Please tell me if I’m in the wrong here.
Me and Hollie needed to go to Chester. When we planned, the trip we knew that it would happen directly after we’d return from a few days away in London. That said, we didn’t want to be away from the boys any longer.
Cool.
We made plans that would involve them too. Hollie booked tickets to go to an ice cream farm, after we had finished our business in town.
Nice.
While the phrase ‘ice cream farm’ was peculiar, it didn’t inspire me to want to investigate further. Whatever it is, I trust that Hollie’s found something great for the boys.
Let’s do it.
I didn’t ask anything else and I figured it was best that I just waited on the day and enjoyed it when I got there.
That morning, Hollie forwarded the email confirmation to me, so I could print the tickets off. We prepared ourselves for all types of weather, and we were ready to go.
So we drove.
It’s just over two hours to Chester from here and, now that we’ve done a lot of these trips over the past couple of years, it was a calm drive.
As we got close to Chester, we passed a place Hollie’s mentioned a couple of times before: Snugburys ice cream farm.
As we drove past, Hollie spoke to the boys about it, saying that they needed to look out for the giant bee outside, the big blue sign and remember what the place looked like.
We’ll see you at 2.30pm.
We did our thing and attended to the work-related stuff we had to do in Chester, and then we were free to make our second stop off at this ice cream farm.
While Hollie strapped the boys in at the back, I put Snugburys into Google maps. Hollie asked me if I checked it was the same postcode as what was on the tickets, but I brushed it off because we’d already driven past our destination a couple of hours earlier.
We drive.
We arrived at Snugburys. As we entered we saw a handful of giant pigs, as well as a queue of people holding ice cream cones. This is very obviously an ice cream farm. I don’t know what I’m meant to expect, but we’re at an ice cream farm.
So we take a look around.
The boys shout things at the pigs and the goats, before we head towards the entrance. As we creep towards this line of ice cream-munching people, Hollie blindsides me:
“We’re at the wrong ice cream farm.”
How.
How is there more than one ice cream farm.
Furthermore, you told me earlier that this was where we were going.
I then get blamed for this mistake, because I didn’t follow the instructions of checking the postcode on the ticket.
(Don’t worry – writing this out now, I’m definitely convinced my part in this error is eclipsed by Hollie’s).
It’s 2.18pm now. The actual place – The Ice Cream Farm – is 18 minutes away. We better get a move on.
As it turns out, the actual place we were meant to go to is a wonderland for the little ones. While they probably would have been satisfied by seeing the animals and downing an ice cream, Snugburys was a world away from the wonders they discovered down the road at The Ice Cream Farm.
It’s definitely got Roald Dahl Chocolate Factory vibes and gives the chance to fully explore their imagination as they traverse all types of terrain in a giant sweet-themed playground.

They’ve got all sorts of different outdoor attractions, alongside an indoor half-water play area too. There are go-karts, plenty to climb and it’s the kind of place you can get completely lost in.
Big tip is to end the day with the ice cream, because the small ones will make a mess, and it will make you want to end the day then and there.
