Where have I been all year?
So it turns out I haven’t posted in a good while, and in that time a lot has changed in my world. At the start of 2023 I was heavily into the idea of broadening my content output and started by making a TikTok account, making loads of YouTube content and not posting any of it.
I know – I’m like this and it’s irritating. I’m always jumping from one thing to the next, but this year I feel like it was necessary because of how quickly things were moving and what was changing with technology and for me personally.
Things took a massive turn when I found a handful of generative AI tools that took up an awful lot of my time. The potential is wild and I have to keep demonstrating to everyone around me why and how they need to use it to increase their productivity in literally anything they’re involved with.
A couple of areas I used it with are KPD and POD, both of which I had indirect experience with, but hadn’t fully focused on creating assets for in years. As I was so excited about them, I decided to make a YouTube channel about a completely separate topic to my January 2023 one (that has yet to launch and actually may not).
Throughout this whole time I’ve been doing other bits and pieces like growing my biggest website to date to reach record traffic numbers, experimenting with my video editing skills and all the while trying to figure out what I want to present to the world.
I still don’t know.
All I know is that I’m excited about lots of the things I’m doing and, looking back, I’m not sure how I managed to fit it all in with kids, a variety of press trips – including two abroad. I want to share it all but I’m getting worse at juggling – so can’t keep adding additional, self-made content on top of that without losing track of something else.
Imagine if I had a regular job.
When people ask what I do, I just don’t know what to tell them anymore. In the last week I made the most money off a domain sale, but I’m still an active Amazon seller, I run a lot of websites, I’ve somehow got a queue of graphic design clients that I sell AI-generated imagery to. (Mate, I don’t even know how to use Photoshop). I’ve got all these ecommerce shops, masses of listings on POD platforms – plus I do the other content on top of that. I’m building a portfolio of hundreds of ebooks on KPD and I’m about to get into physicals when I have a spare afternoon to figure out how.
If I were to order the platforms I want to post on right now, it goes:
- YouTube
- TikTok
- Blog
And that’s an issue because the top two haven’t seen me earn a penny and the other two have, but the incentive and the motivation just isn’t aligning right now. The only reason I’m writing this right now is because I’m at an airport, procrastinating from either writing another post for another site or writing a 30-word caption for an Instagram post.
My #1 priority today is finishing one particular book. I have made loads for KDP but none of them have had my name attached to them, so they are irrelevant. This one is a big deal. This one has taken me two straight months of nearly-full-time prep to get done. This is supposed to be ready for the Christmas rush. This is supposed to be the one that gives me a chance to sit back, chill for a bit and figure out my next big project.
