One Step Ahead

If there’s one thing this damn pandemic taught me, it’s that I’m not as prepared as I thought I was. I give out loads of advice on my other blog about productivity, diversifying income and getting ahead on work, yet this UNPRECEDENTED event has just reinforced the fact that I think I’m a lot more disciplined than I actually am.

I’ve always got loads of posts written and scheduled for the future, but a fair few of them just don’t make any sense in the current climate, so I’ve had to park them.

Obviously this is not a normal situation. I mean we cannot leave our homes unless we need milk right now. But I actually thought I was in a position where I could chill out and decide not to do any work for a while and just let things roll on, but it’s in no way a possibility right now.

All of my plans depended upon me being able to do X by a certain point. As loads of those things just can’t happen as a result of this situation, I’ve got major life and project plans that (in a matter of days) went from happening this summer to being knocked back into 2021 or 2022, depending on when things settle down.

I understand that these plans aren’t as big as postponing an Olympic Games or nothing, but they were big to me, innit.

This year is going to show me what being ahead really looks like, and it started from the point the nurseries closed. From the time that they let us know we’d have both boys in the house with us all day long with us – when we’re trying to get even more work done than usual – just reinforced that I need to let go of as many day-to-day tasks as possible.

Outsourcing is the lick and I need to do even more of it than before. Now back to work.
