We’re getting to the point where the boys are transitioning away from their early years toys and towards things that give them a lot more stimulation. Anything that looks to simple for them to do, they (especially Cameo) will immediately dismiss as being for babies. It means we’re gradually having to empty their old toy boxes of all the things they’re very unlikely to return to with items that are going to hold their attention for much longer.

That’s where the Gigabots come in.

Gigabots begin as unassuming so-called “energy cores”. I mean it looks like some sort of funky metallic-like ball sort of situation. It isn’t until you awake then and open it out that you see that al the action is hiding on the inside, as they open out to create full 13 inch-tall robot figures.

Depending on the age of your child, there’s a chance that you will be heavily involved in the transition phase as the energy cores expand out, you piece them together and make them into full-sized highly articulated figures that you can battle with each other.

While my eldest (5) was very comfortable putting these Gigabots together, my youngest (4) much preferred making the orders and telling me how to put it together so we could skip to the good bit and he would be able to play with his fully formed and complete robot. I mean, I completely understand where he’s coming from. (I would be taking advantage of my privileges if I was 4 too).

Here we have the charming Scrapbot and the rugged Torbot, each of which have completely different bodies and components that you can put together to make the full figure. Each has around 30 different pieces to put together, so if your little ones like a building challenge then you don’t need to look any further. These guys have been made very welcome among the boys’ figure collection.

Gigabots are available to buy from Smyths Toys. There’s a whole set of them for you to collect, so if you’re anything like me and can’t stand being part way into a set, you may want to dig deep and get the lot. Note that if you do, the parts are actually interchangeable with one another so you can play around and experiment with different ways of making them and putting them all together.
