What a Difference a Week Makes

Hot Wheels

The last time I MOTed my last car – a Golf – something extraordinary in the days between it passing and me paying for it. Let me explain. My uncle is a mechanic. Whenever I need my car sorting, he’ll do a drive by to collect it and drop it off once he’s done. No pressure to pay on the day – he knows I’ll see him again in a week. The MOT happened on Monday and it passed first time; payment was scheduled for Saturday.

We drove the car as normal all week, but then on Thursday, a madness happened. Hollie did a pretty standard trip to Nottingham to Chester, and back again. She was going with a photographer. It was on that ‘back again’ bit was where the trouble happened. As she drove, shuddering occurred. SHUDDERING. And despite having driven over four hours that day, it chose the last two minutes of the journey to decide to give up. The car barely made it back to the driveway.

I told you about how expensive this car’s been this year already.

Anyway, we hollered AA. They came out and made it “drivable”. Their definition was flakey. That car wasn’t going further than the end of the road. After another AA visit on the Friday morning and a discussion with my uncle, we decided the Golf was no more. It was done. It was over. But we had a big Saturday ahead of us and we needed a car for it.

Great timing.

That very same day we spent the afternoon hunting down new wheels, and upgraded in a major way. But there’s no major downside, and I haven’t fully taken it in yet.

Wait for it.

OK, let’s go.

It doesn’t have a CD player.

I have about a thousand CDs and no device to play any of them on, after about eight years of collecting, I can’t really justify continuing right now.

It’s crazy and it was oh so sudden, but I can’t quite figure out the next move from here.

Do I:

As of right now, I can’t figure out exactly what’s best and what’s going to make the most sense in the long-term. I know it’s going to make me make better decisions with the music I keep, but I’ve got a feeling that it’s not going to stop the collecting. The only reason I say this is because I know that I’m not letting go of the rare releases I have yet. If I’m not letting those go, it’s long going and getting rid of the rest too.

Once I’ve had time to properly sit with this news and figure out how I’m feeling, I’ll update on whether it’s the end of my CD-hoarding journey.
