It’s like we’ve got a story for all of our kids’ appliances and gadgets. This time around it’s time to talk car seats. I can’t remember much of the decision-making process for our very first one, but we opted for a seat that is suitable to new borns up until they get to about 9 months. We thought that after that point, we would replace it with a bigger one that lasted Cameo for the next few years.
The ISO fix base car seat he had seemed to get the job done, but it felt like so much effort because it came in two pieces. If we ever took it out, it was so much hassle to put back in.
Unfortunately for our firstborn, we were very forgetful parents around that time. Blame it on having to work full-time, build our businesses in our spare time and fight sleep during daylight hours. Let’s got get into details, but we took longer than we should have to get him the booster car seat he’s now in; one which will last him from turning into a toddler right up to when he turns 7 (or he gets as heavy as a 7-year-old).
Although we knew we had another baby very much on the way, we got rid of Cameo’s old car seat and replaced it on the same day we got his new one and opted for another temporary one – one which would only last for a year. With Cameo’s first, we went for an ISO fix one
In the end we went and got Cameo a functional car seat which will last him until he’s 7. It’s non-ISO and we wouldn’t have a clue how to retie the seat belt to fix it in again, so we just haven’t for over a year. For Marlo’s second, we knew that we needed something that would be easier to take in and out but we were indifferent about whether it was an ISO fix one.
The timing was perfect when Chicco came knocking and blessed us with a welcome upgrade. – a Youniverse.
This particular model allows you to adjust the headrest, has x3 reclining positions and it fits out 1-year-old in very snuggly. It’s heavily cushioned (especially compared to his big brother’s!) and feels very sturdy.

Myself and Hollie had a bit of a mare trying to figure out how to get the ISO fix section out (because we refused to look at the instructions at first), but one you’ve done it, it’s a very quick and easy process to get the seat road-ready.
- Slot in the ISO fix
- Connect rear fastening
- Place child in
- Clip them in
- Roll
I have to say that it’s heavy, but it’s only because of all the cushioning and the fact that the ISO fix base is built into it (which I definitely prefer). This being the case, it’s very easy to take in and out, as and when you need it.
Compared to Cameo’s, Marlo’s car seat looks like an absolute throne. And it’s going to last him until he no longer needs to sit in car seats. Now he’s been turned around, he’s riding high and ready to take in the world around him for when we go on our adventures.
